Between Structure and Time: The Design Practice of a Taiwanese Cross Stitch Designer

My name is Kendall Yan, also known by my Chinese name, Ting-Chao Yan. I am a Taiwanese cross stitch designer working.

I currently maintain a full-time professional career alongside my cross stitch work. This is not a transitional phase, but a deliberate choice that allows ideas to develop with clarity and depth, without being rushed by constant production.

Based on personal workflow and creative considerations, I do not present myself publicly through personal photographs. This approach allows me to preserve focus and flexibility within my design process.
Perhaps one day, when cross stitch becomes my sole professional identity, I will choose to step forward more visibly.

My designs are released on a consistent quarterly schedule—every year in March, June, September, and December, on the last Friday of each month (Taiwan time).
This rhythm allows sufficient time for each mandala cross stitch design to be structured, tested, and refined.

You may notice the Taiwanese flag referenced in my instructions. The explanation is straightforward: I am Taiwanese.
This identity informs how I approach cultural context, creative boundaries, and the protection of my work. For those familiar with Taiwan’s geography and history, the significance is self-evident.

I do not post frequently, as my creative process requires sustained attention. However, I remain engaged with readers and collectors.
Late-night activity often reflects ongoing adjustments—refining composition, proportion, and color relationships.

This year, I devoted significant time to building my official website as a dedicated archive for both designs and design thinking.
Looking ahead, I plan to share educational insights into special stitching techniques—elements that play a central role in my design language and long-term creative exploration.

If you have themes, structures, or mandala concepts you would like to explore, you are always welcome to reach out.
Design, after all, is a dialogue developed gradually over time.
