Specialty Stitches: Algerian Eyelet

This is the first stitch I learned in my life.
Despite how it may look, it is not difficult at all—so please don’t be intimidated by the idea of the fabric hole becoming larger. It’s much easier than you think.

In my patterns, you will encounter three different variations of the Algerian Eyelet, described below.

The first two Algerian Eyelet variations are very straightforward.
For all even-numbered steps, pull firmly in the direction of the next stitch. This tension helps shape the center into a smooth, rounded hole.

The third Algerian Eyelet variation is slightly more advanced.
For Steps 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, and 30, pull firmly to enlarge the main center hole.
Additionally, Step 15 should also be pulled firmly to create and emphasize the second hole.

Take your time, follow the tension guidance carefully, and you’ll find this stitch both controlled and rewarding to work with.
