Where Stitch Becomes Art

TOTOOSTITCH is an independent cross stitch studio devoted to intricate composition, unusual materials, and contemporary mandala design.

Created in Taiwan, each pattern is designed as a complete visual work—where structure, color, texture, and detail are considered with equal intention.

The Designer

My name is Kendall.

Before becoming a cross stitch designer, I worked in product and brand design, where I learned to think in terms of structure, proportion, visual hierarchy, and detail.

Cross stitch eventually became the place where these disciplines could slow down.

My mother, who once worked as a tester for a renowned cross stitch shop in Taipei, introduced me to the craft when I was young. Years later, she gave me a simple piece of advice:

“You can design your own patterns. Create your own wonderland.”

TOTOOSTITCH began from that idea.

Design Philosophy

I am drawn to things that reveal themselves slowly.Mandalas, botanical forms, architecture, mythology, natural history, gemstones, textiles, and the small visual details found in the world around us often become starting points for my designs.Rather than treating a pattern as a simple collection of stitches, I approach each work as a composition.Color, rhythm, symmetry, texture, specialty stitches, beads, and embellishments are considered as parts of the same visual language.The goal is not simply to make a pattern intricate.It is to make every detail belong.

The Name

“Totoo” comes from the Tao people of Taiwan, referring to the Lanyu Scops Owl, a small owl native to Orchid Island.

The owl also carries a long history of symbolism. In Greek mythology, it is associated with Athena—the goddess of wisdom and patron of crafts.

For TOTOOSTITCH, the owl represents curiosity, wisdom, patience, and the quiet pursuit of mastery.

It is a fitting symbol for a craft that asks us to slow down, observe closely, and build beauty one stitch at a time.

The Work

Every TOTOOSTITCH pattern begins as an original composition.Some begin with a story.Some with a place.Some with a creature, a painting, a piece of architecture, or simply an intriguing shape.From there, the design is developed through drawing, color studies, stitch experimentation, and countless refinements.The final pattern is created for stitchers who enjoy the process as much as the finished piece—those who appreciate patience, precision, and the pleasure of discovering another detail along the way.

Each pattern includes detailed charts, color information, materials guidance, and instructions for specialty stitches where applicable.
